Dr. Clayton Ford, Pastor
Dr. Clayton (Clay) Ford became the Pastor of La Jolla Christian Fellowship, at the corner of Genter and Draper Streets,
on July 15. Clay grew up in Virginia and West Virginia and is a graduate of Davidson College in North Carolina.
He experienced a dramatic conversion to Jesus Christ during his senior year of college and was called into
ministry four months later. He received the M Div degree from the American Baptist Seminary of the West in
Berkeley and Covina, CA and the Doctor of Ministry degree from Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary in
Philadelphia (now Palmer Theological Seminary).
Clay has served in a variety of ministries including senior pastor in several American Baptist and Transformation
Ministries churches and as street missionary in Berkeley, CA. (Clay's book, Berkeley Journal, was published by
Harper and Row when he was a seminary student.) In addition to being a pastor, Clay is also currently the National
Chair of Holy Spirit Renewal Ministries (hsrm.org),
a ministry dedicated to bringing about the spiritual
revitalization of churches, seminaries, and Christian organizations, particularly among Baptists, but also in the
wider body of Christ. He is a sought-after speaker and has spoken at numerous churches and conferences across the
United States and overseas, including church renewal weekends and spiritual refreshment conferences, pastor/spouse
retreats, pastoral leadership training, evangelism and apologetics seminars, evangelistic rallies, victory in
Christ (spiritual warfare) seminars, university forums and debates, world missions conferences, worship symposiums,
and regional Promise Keeper events.
Cheri Ford and Clay have been married for over thirty years and have two grown children and five grandchildren.
Cheri is particularly excited to land in La Jolla. Her family moved from Illinois to the La Jolla area in her early
childhood. They were soon forced to move inland, however, because of her frequent bouts with asthma. She was raised
in Pomona. "Coming back here is like a dream come true," she says. She loves the La Jolla area and her new church: "The
people in this church are wonderful. I'm so blessed to be here and we expect great things. I'm looking forward to
investing my life and talents into this lovely community." Cheri has worked alongside her husband throughout his career
in ministry.
Cheri is also a speaker and an award-winning author with five published books Her modern translation of The Pilgrim's
Progress (Tyndale Publishers) received the Gold Medallion Award; since that time she has written The Pilgrim's Progress
Devotional, and three books in the Women of the Word series for Crossway Publishers: Treasure From the Heart, Healing
of the Heart, and Triumphs of the Heart. You can learn more about Cheri and her books from her website
(cherylford.com).
Clay and Cheri's son Billy is the Pastor at Bouquet Canyon Church (bouquetcanyonchurch.com)
in Santa Clarita, CA. Their
daughter Hannah (hannahford.com)
is in full time ministry as a singer, evangelist, and worship leader. Her new CD,
called "Fervency", is blessing thousands of people in the US and abroad.
